FOOD DISTRIBUTION:

  • No Kid Hungry - Meals Texting Program: TEXT   to   877-877, write your zip code and send. You will receive a text back with information about nearest School food distribution, they are open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 1:30pm breakfast and Lunch. Parents with their Children and Senior Citizens are welcome, ID is not required. Everybody qualifies.

HOUSING:

  • CARES Act Eviction Protection, signed into law 3/27/2020, provides 120 days of eviction relief for tenants in federally backed housing. Specifically, you may not be served with an eviction notice until 7/25/2020 and the notice must give you 30 days to leave the property (Aug. 24, 2020).
  • Foreclosures and evictions will be suspended for at least 60 days.

 


STIMULUS CHECK:

  • Part of the CARES Act is the Stimulus Check for all eligible individuals and households in the form of a new tax credit. Individuals filing income taxes can get up to $1,200, while couples filing jointly can get $2,400—plus an additional $500 for each child.
  • SS, SSI recipients are eligible
  • People without legal status do not qualify.
  • People who have ITIN # do not qualify.
  • Public Charges:    Stimulus Check is not considered a public benefit under the Public Charge Rule. Receiving this tax credit will not impact in future immigration filings.

 


EXPANDED UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS:

  • The CARES Act opened up unemployment benefits to a range of people who weren’t eligible before, including gig economy workers like drivers for Uber or Lyft, freelancers, and independent contractors. Part-time employees who lost their jobs due to coronavirus will also be covered, as will people who had to stop working to take care of a sick member of the family or homeschool their children. You may qualify to receive: 39 weeks of UI benefits.
  • The CARES Act includes a $600-a-week bonus until 7/31/2020 for those registered as unemployed. The $600 is issued in addition to the standard. Apply online. https://labor.ny.gov/unemploymentassistance.shtm
