Lisa Baltazar joined LatinoJustice as its inaugural Deputy General Counsel for Administration and Chief of Staff in April 2024. As DGC-Admin & Chief of Staff, Lisa reports directly to the President & General Counsel and serves as a member of LJP’s senior leadership team. Lisa’s responsibilities include compliance and corporate governance; alignment and execution of operational policies and procedures across the organization; strategic planning; and union relations.

Lisa’s decades of experience as an attorney include areas such as compliance, corporate governance, gap assessments, strategic planning, policy development, contract negotiations, and operations. Since 2004, she served as a legal and compliance leader at three financial services firms, most recently as Prudential’s Chief Legal Officer for Emerging Markets and prior to that as Chief Compliance Officer for Prudential’s Group Insurance, Marketing and Financial Wellness businesses. In these roles, Lisa was a member of, and advisor to, senior leadership teams, and a leader of DEI initiatives.

Lisa has extensive nonprofit, pro bono, and community service experience and joined LJP to serve an organization that advances social justice and human rights for Latinos and other communities of color. Lisa was a past PRLDEF summer law intern (1996) and is an alum of its leadership development programs. 

Lisa graduated from Stony Brook University and received her master’s in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. In 1998, Lisa received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she completed a semester abroad at the Universidad de Buenos Aires’ Facultad de Derechos and was an articles editor of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.

Lisa is a member of the Hispanic Lawyers Society of NY. She resides with her wife in Manhattan and enjoys salsa dancing, bike riding, and surfing.
