Lydiette Diaz
Director, CAP Leadership Institute

Lydiette Diaz’s career journey is at once traditional and totally modern. When she joined LatinoJustice in 2011 as Executive Assistant to then newly appointed President & General Counsel Juan Cartagena, Lydiette had served as the assistant to the Dean of International Programs and Special Projects for Seton Hall University School of Law and as a Paralegal for Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer.

One of the hallmarks of LatinoJustice is that we can spot, and nurture diverse talents and we are nimble enough to give staff opportunities to spread their wings and get involved in projects outside their prescribed roles. Lydiette proved to be a non-profit wunderkind, morphing her Executive Assistant duties to provide integral support and strategy to our Finance, Development and Education teams. As it became clear that Lydiette has adaptable skills, interests and expertise, her role was broadened, and she became the Special Projects Manager to provide seamless integration of new or unassigned projects into our work.

Among her new duties, Lydiette became the liaison to the LatinoJustice Lideres, facilitating our young professional’s board’s development into a mighty resource and force for LatinoJustice. She also helped spearhead the development of a brand-new legal pipeline program, the Next Generation Lideres (NGL), which added another layer to LJP’s leadership development continuum. In recognition of Lydiette’s extraordinary contributions and capacity to lead, she has now taken on the role of Director of the CAP Leadership Institute, LJP’s leadership development pillar, which includes legal pipeline, education, leadership, and civic engagement programs. We are proud and grateful to have Lydiette in this position of leadership.

Lydiette, born in Puerto Rico and raised in Woodbridge, NJ, has her BA from Rutgers University and a Master’s in Diplomacy and International Relations from Seton Hall University. She shares a Bloomfield, NJ home and two children, Alexander, 4, and Nicolas, 2, with her husband, Mark.
