LatinoJustice Statement on the Racially-Motivated Shooting Against Asian Americans In Atlanta

Our hearts go out to the families of the victims in Atlanta in what appears to be a racially motivated crime against Asian Americans. Hate crimes have increased in recent years including within our Asian American communities. As Latinx communities know full well, intolerance in all its manifestations must be confronted and eliminated.

We also know that in a country that possesses a grossly disproportionate number of firearms than the rest of the world we continuously run the risk of unimaginable violence on a large scale.

As we hold individuals accountable for this harm we must also look more broadly to the institutions, practices, dog whistles and megaphones that beget violence and hate. In that task, LatinoJustice stands ready to support our collective response from all communities.
