LatinoJusticePRLDEF Statement on the Coronavirus

Anonymous

Since the beginning of the year, the world has watched in horror as the Corona Virus, also known as COVID –19, has become faster, stronger, and more lethal than any other virus in recent memory.  Given recent developments around the world, and more specifically, in our geographical areas of concentration, as well as the amount of widespread anxiety and uncertainty the spread of this virus has understandably caused, our organization has made the decision to temporarily suspend staff commute to our physical offices in New York City, Long Island City, as well as our Southeast and Southwest regional offices, located in Orlando and Austin, respectively. We have also decided to postpone any events previously scheduled for the remainder of the month of March. Our operations, including our legal, advocacy, and community-support work, will continue as usual through our virtual platforms.

While we don't have any confirmed cases connected to the organization, we believe that we must do all that we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for those we serve, as well as those who serve with us.  The health and safety of LatinoJustice visitors, staff and volunteers have always been, and will continue to be, our top priority. We will continue to monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies, and information about when we'll be able to welcome our staff and visitors back to our locations will be made available as soon as possible.

As an organization with a long-standing legacy of fighting to protect the civil and human rights of Latinos in the United States, we continue to be committed to serving our constituents and advocating for the most important issues impacting the Latino community.  Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we pledge to continue to meet the challenges posed by this virus by taking refuge in our hope, in our oneness of purpose, in our faith in humanity.
