LatinoJustice Board Chair and NGL Mentor Receive HNBA National Award

NEW YORK, NY — LatinoJustice PRLDE congratulates José Ramón González, LatinoJustice’s Board Chair, for his recognition by the Hispanic National Bar Association as the 2021 national Latino Attorney of the Year, and James Arturo Aliaga, a LatinoJustice Next Generation Lideres mentor and CAP partner, for his recognition as the HNBA’s National Regional President of the Year Award. In addition, the Dominican Bar Association, a long-time LatinoJustice partner led by President Doralyn DeDios, was recognized as the HNBA Affiliate Bar Association of the year.

LatinoJustice enthusiastically supported the HNBA’s Selection Committee members' choice of José Ramón González as one of their national award recipients. Mr. González has been a member of the LatinoJustice Board of Directors since 2013, chairing the Board since 2020, and has helped build LJP’s profile as a leading national social justice organization.

Below is a statement from LatinoJustice’s Deputy General Counsel, Jose Perez, congratulating the awardees:

“LatinoJustice is incredibly proud to see these long-time LatinoJustice friends and allies recognized by the HNBA for their contributions to the well-being of Latino communities and beyond. We congratulate José Ramón González, Jimmy Aliaga and Doralyn DeDios and the Dominican Bar Association for receiving these coveted awards, reflective of their distinguished careers and the positive impact they’ve had in the lives of many.

Mr. Gonzales, who has been practicing law for over two decades, has been a guiding force amongst our fellow Board members, cultivating a culture of inclusion and serving as a powerful advocate and supporter of our pillars. Mr. Aliaga, who has also been an exemplary leader, is a super-volunteer, mentoring college and law students through LatinoJustice’s Next Generation Lideres mentorship program, including prospective first-generation attorneys like himself. The Dominican Bar Association has been on the front lines serving, engaging, and empowering New York’s Dominican community. Their collective commitment to making a difference and their dedicated service to LatinoJustice and its mission will have a lasting impact on our communities. We are thrilled for the honorees, and we are excited for their future accomplishments and contributions to social justice and civil and human rights.”
