LatinoJustice Calls Out NYC Districting Commission’s Refusal to Present Fair Maps
The civil rights group calls for “a more transparent process” by the Commission
NEW YORK - In a vote of 8 to 7, the New York Districting Commission, charged with the mission of redistricting City Council districts, voted down submitting a revised map to the New York City Council. The rejected plan reflects over 9,000 community testimonies and public input.
The following statement can be attributed to Cesar Ruiz, an attorney at LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
“By refusing to submit revised, fair redistricting maps to the City Council for consideration, NYC’s Redistricting Committee is once again doubling down on dysfunction instead of serving the will of the people, as is its mandate. Every community in New York, and especially those who have been historically excluded from power, deserves a say in how we draw the maps that determine who represents them. LatinoJustice PRLDEF urges the Commission to engage in a more transparent process, and to submit revised maps that can be held up to public scrutiny and review.”

El grupo de derechos civiles pide "un proceso más transparente" por parte de la Comisión
NUEVA YORK - En una votación de 8 a 7, la Comisión de Distritos de Nueva York, encargada con la misión de redistribuir los distritos del Concejo Municipal, votó en contra de presentar un mapa revisado al Concejo Municipal de Nueva York. El plan rechazado refleja más de 9,000 testimonios comunitarios y aportes públicos.

“Al negarse a presentar mapas de redistribución de distritos revisados y justos al Concejo Municipal para su consideración, el Comité de Redistribución de Distritos de la Ciudad de Nueva York una vez más está redoblando su apuesta a la disfunción en lugar de servir a la voluntad del pueblo, como es su mandato. Cada comunidad en Nueva York, y especialmente aquellas que han sido históricamente excluidas del poder, merecen opinar sobre cómo trazamos los mapas que determinan quién los representa.
