LatinoJustice PRLDEF Calls Abortion Restrictions "White Supremacy in Action" in Reaction to Supreme Court Decision
Civil Rights Group Supports Bodily Autonomy for All
New York, NY – On a vote of 6-3, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in the case of, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that there is no Constitutional right to terminate pregnancy, effectively overturning the landmark decisions in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey and reversing the right to abortion established almost half a century ago. The case challenged whether Mississippi’s ban on abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy is constitutional.
The following statement can be attributed to LatinoJustice PRLDEF President and General Counsel Lourdes M. Rosado:
"Today's decision by the Supreme Court strips women of their fundamental right to autonomy over their own bodies. This horrific outcome comes as no surprise as those with power and privilege have been systematically shaping the Court to protect their own interests.
“The Court has deprived all women of a long-recognized constitutional right, but their actions will do the most harm to people who are furthest from opportunity and communities of color. We know many of our most vulnerable community members will be criminalized and marginalized as a result of this decision, and that many others will die for lack of essential reproductive health care. The impact of abortion bans fall hardest on people of color, people with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, immigrants, and people having difficulty making ends meet. LatinoJustice PRLDEF stands with all people who will be harmed, and will continue to support and defend their bodily autonomy to make the decision of if, when and how they start a family. We will continue to fight for the right to access safe, affordable reproductive health care for all and will rally against all attempts to take this country back to a time when, as 'history and tradition' suggests, only affluent, white, cisgender males in power had the privilege of freedom and autonomy.
“Abortion restrictions are white supremacy in action and only perpetuates cycles of poverty and trap our most vulnerable in systems of oppression. We call for immediate action from our lawmakers to stand on the right side of history and denounce such actions as the ones taken today by our highest court. Abortion is essential and a fundamental human right.”

Nueva York, NY – En una votación de 6 a 3, la Corte Suprema de los EE. UU. ha dictaminado en el caso Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization que no existe un derecho constitucional para interrumpir el embarazo, anulando efectivamente las decisiones históricas en Roe v. Wade y Planned Parenthood v. Casey y revirtiendo el derecho al aborto establecido hace casi medio siglo. El caso cuestionó si la prohibición de abortos después de la semana 15 de embarazo en Mississippi es constitucional.

“La decisión de hoy de la Corte Suprema despojará a las mujeres de su derecho fundamental a la autonomía sobre sus propios cuerpos. Este horrible resultado no sorprende, ya que aquellos con poder y privilegios han estado moldeando sistemáticamente a la Corte para proteger sus propios intereses.
“La Corte ha privado a todas las mujeres de un derecho constitucional reconocido desde hace mucho tiempo, sus acciones dañarán más a las personas que están más alejadas de las oportunidades y las comunidades de color. El impacto de las prohibiciones del aborto recae más en las personas de color, las personas con discapacidades, las personas en áreas rurales, los jóvenes, los inmigrantes y las personas que tienen dificultades para llegar a fin de mes. LatinoJustice PRLDEF está con todas las personas que se verán perjudicadas y seguirá apoyando y defendiendo su autonomía corporal para tomar la decisión de si, cuándo y cómo formar una familia. Continuaremos luchando por el derecho a acceder a una atención de salud reproductiva segura y asequible para todos y nos uniremos contra todos los intentos de hacer que este país regrese a una época en la que, como sugiere la 'historia y la tradición', solo los hombres blancos, ricos y cisgénero en el poder tenia el privilegio de la libertad y la autonomia.
“Las restricciones al aborto son la supremacía blanca en acción y solo perpetúan los ciclos de pobreza y atrapan a los más vulnerables en sistemas de opresión. Hacemos un llamado a la acción inmediata de nuestros legisladores para que se coloquen en el lado correcto de la historia y denuncien acciones como las que tomó hoy nuestro tribunal supremo. El aborto es esencial y un derecho humano fundamental”.
