LatinoJustice PRLDEF Statement on the Historic Confirmation of Judge Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court

New York, NY – On a vote of 53-47 the U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman Supreme Court justice. Below is a statement by LatinoJustice PRLDEF President and General Counsel, Lourdes M. Rosado on the historic confirmation.

“We congratulate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her confirmation, and on becoming the first Black woman appointed to our highest court. We celebrate her background as a public defender and long history of working toward racial and social equity, in addition to other stellar judicial qualifications. She will bring a much-needed perspective and life experience that will inform Supreme Court decisions, to the benefit our communities of color. At this historic moment, LatinoJustice and many in our Latino community feel the same pride we felt when we supported Justice Sonia Sotomayor during her 2009 confirmation hearings. We join our Black brothers and sisters, and all Americans, in the pride we feel for Judge Brown Jackson’s achievements, her grace, and her recognition that she is ‘standing on the shoulders of generations of Americans who never had anything close to this opportunity’.We look forward to seeing her values and principles in action to address issues of deep concern to our Black and Latino communities.”
