LatinoJustice Statement in Support of the Gender Recognition Act (GRA)

“As the legislative session in New York comes to a close, LatinoJustice PRLDEF reiterates our support for trans and non-binary New Yorkers, particularly our trans Latinx community, by urging New Yorkers to call on their legislators to pass the Gender Recognition Act,” said Lia Fiol-Matta, senior counsel at LatinoJustice PRLDEF.

"The GRA guarantees a streamlined and private name-change process as well as the addition of gender marker “X” for a non-binary individual’s birth certificate, driver’s license and non-driver ID without having to provide medical documentation. These advancements will significantly impact their lives and respect their full identities. Support the GRA because trans rights are human rights!”
