Leading Latino Organizations And Latino Officials Join Together To Urge Latinos To Vote In The 2021 NYC Primary Elections

New York, NY-  Ahead of the last weekend of early voting and four days away from Election Day, Latino elected and appointed officials and leading Latino organizations will unite to urge New York City’s Latino voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box during the primary elections. Voters can go to the polls Saturday, June 19 between 8AM and 5PM, Sunday, June 20 between 8AM and 4PM and on Election Day, Tuesday, June 22 between 6AM and 9PM.

It is critically important that Latino voters are empowered with information about election procedures for the primary elections due to the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Latinos and other communities of color. Latinos have been overrepresented in terms of fatalities, infection rates, and job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.  New York City leaders elected in 2021 will be responsible for policymaking decisions that will facilitate recovery from these crises, and it is essential that Latinos help shape these policies with their votes.

Latino voters make-up 22.5% of the New York City electorate, 1,110,951 out of 4,931,951 registered voters as of the month of April 2021. They need culturally-and-linguistically accessible information about these elections given the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting and new resources available to them, like early voting. New York City is the largest and most culturally-and-linguistically diverse jurisdiction to implement Ranked Choice Voting. It is important for voters to know that there is a new method of voting before they reach the polls.
