Capital Punishment is the Ultimate Violation of Human Dignity says LatinoJustice on Upcoming Texas Execution

Austin, TX – The state of Texas is set to execute Robert Roberson, a man who has maintained his innocence over 20 years on death row, on Thursday, October 17th

His execution was scheduled after the Texas' court of criminal appeals denied his appeal last Friday. Yet he has requested clemency from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles and Governor Greg Abbott.  If Roberson is executed, he would become the first person in the country put to death on the basis of a shaken baby syndrome diagnosis.

In light of this news LatinoJustice release the following statement that can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, President and General Counsel of  LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
“We are appalled that yet another man, Robert Roberson, is facing death in a state the remains as an outlier with some of the most executions in the nation. In 2023 eight people in Texas were executed and another five, this year alone. Robert Roberson has time and time again argued that his conviction was based on an erroneous diagnosis given to his daughter, yet the courts have once again failed to fulfill their role as mediators of justice. LatinoJustice calls on the Board of Pardons and Parole and the Texas governor to step in to ensure the ultimate violation of human dignity and another dark mark on justice are avoided. We denounce this cruel, racist and unjust practice of capital punishment in Texas and nationwide.”
