GOTV: LATINO ORGANIZATIONS UNITE FOR DAYS OF ACTION
ACROSS NYC TO ENCOURAGE LATINO VOTER TURNOUT
NEW YORK, NY – Beginning Monday, October 21 through Saturday, October 26, the New York Latino Civic Engagement Coalition – comprised of The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, Hispanic Federation (HF), LatinoJustice PRLDEF (LJP), and Dominicanos USA (DUSA) – will be hosting a series of Get Out the Vote activities across New York City ahead of the midterm elections. In partnership with local community-based organizations including, La Colmena, Urban Health Plan, El Puente, Voces Latinas, and St. Ann’s Corner of Harm Reduction.
"Understanding voting rights, particularly around language access, is vital for our community," said Isabelle Muhlbauer, National Advocacy Manager of Voting Rights, LatinoJustice PRLDEF. "For decades, LatinoJustice has championed the rights of Latino voters, and we remain committed to this mission. Together with our coalition partners, we aim to empower voters with the knowledge they need to ensure their voices are heard because every vote counts."
The activities will take place in highly populated Latino areas including the Bronx, upper Manhattan, and Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island where voter information materials such as language access cards and ballot question information will be distributed. With millions of Latinos calling New York City home, it’s essential that Latino voters fully participate in the election and make their voices heard. That’s why the NY Latino coalition is working around the clock to provide nonpartisan information to voters in various ways including in-person outreach, phone calls, texting, and cultural events. Our combined efforts will reach over 200,000 voters in the next two weeks.
