LatinoJustice Calls LUMA to Act Quickly and Restore Power in Puerto Rico
Thousands Remain Without Power After Tropical Storm Ernesto
New York, NY – Tropical storm Ernesto made landfall in Puerto Rico last week affecting around a million people who saw island-wide blackouts. Yet almost a week later, thousands remain without power.
The following statement can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado President and General Counsel at LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
“It’s unacceptable that over 50,000 Puerto Ricans remain without power days after tropical storm Ernesto hit the Island. LUMA Energy, the power company on the island, promised to prepare the island for the next storm yet it has once again failed. Puerto Rican’s are tired of false promises that quite literally leaves them in the dark and in need of critical infrastructure. Power outages in Puerto Rico are not uncommon, Islanders are subject to inefficient and unreliable electrical services week to week which causes constant disruption of electrical service around the entire island. LatinoJustice demands LUMA Energy to take quick action to ensure our communities experience no more unnecessary hardships.”
