LatinoJustice Condemns Ruling Ending TPS for Thousands
Temporary Protected Status Ending for Nepal, Nicaragua, and Honduras
“New York, NY – The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco granted an emergency stay pending an appeal. The ruling puts on hold a lower court's order that had temporarily preserved Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for nearly 60,000 migrants.
This ends the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nepal, Nicaragua and Honduras, rescinding deportation protections for individuals from those nations.
The following statement can be attributed to Stephanie Cordero, Senior Counsel for Immigrant Rights, LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
“We are appalled by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to grant an emergency stay, which ends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for individuals from Nepal, Nicaragua, and Honduras. This ruling strips deportation protections from nearly 60,000 people who have built lives, families, and communities in the United States. We call on this administration to stop taking away lawful status from individuals who have contributed tremendously to the United States and who call this country home and for Congress to act now to provide a permanent solution that recognizes their dignity.”
