LatinoJustice Mourns Passing of The Honorable Carol Robles-Román Leader in NYC’s Latino and Legal Community

New York, NY – LatinoJustice PRLDEF, a national nonprofit organization advancing equity and justice for Latinx communities in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, mourns the loss of the Honorable Carol Robles-Román a past New York Deputy Mayor, president of the ERA Coalition, General Counsel and Dean of Faculty for Hunter College and recipient of LatinoJustice’s Latina Trailblazers award in 2011.

The following statement can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, President and General Counsel of  LatinoJustice PRLDEF:

With a heavy heart, LatinoJustice mourns the passing of Carol Robles-Román, a remarkable and passionate leader in New York’s Latino and legal communities, and part of our extended familia. Carol’s personal and professional roots are deeply entwined with LJP. When she participated in PRLDEF’s student network program, at the side of her future husband the Hon. Nelson Román, she honed her legal skills and commitment to Puerto Ricans and other disadvantaged communities. This mission would be in full display throughout her career, in her roles as New York Deputy Mayor, president of the ERA Coalition, and as General Counsel and Dean of Faculty for Hunter College, and more. We have always cheered on Carol’s many accomplishments and the heart she displayed at every step. And we are grateful for how she and her family have always supported young people looking to follow similar paths in legal and public services careers. This is why we recognized her as one of our inaugural Latina Trailblazers in 2011. We will miss her presence and example terribly and offer our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.”
