LatinoJustice PRLDEF Condemns Harmful Senate Border Bill
Lack of Input from Border and Latino Representatives Concerning

New York, NY – The United States Senate is set to vote on the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act (H.R. 815), a bill with a proposed border deal and foreign aid package.

The following statement can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, President and General Counsel for LatinoJustice PRLDEF:

“The proposed Senate border bill would not only endanger the lives of many asylum seekers but also eliminate safeguards for noncitizens. H.R. 815 would change current asylum processes, denying some people the right to seek asylum and deport current asylum seekers to their original county where they run the risk of possible percussion. We are also disturbed by how the bill was developed, completely shutting out any input from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, as well as from border representatives who have firsthand experience on what is most needed by their communities. Affected communities must have a say on how to address long-time and current challenges at the border and to our immigration system as a whole. LatinoJustice urges the Senate to reject this harmful bill that will not help secure our border but rather cause more damage at the border and across our nation.”
