LatinoJustice Says Court’s Elimination of Federal Policy to Keep Immigrant Families Together “Betrays” Millions

New York, NY – On the heels of the Presidential election results, Federal Judge J. Campbell Barker of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Thursday ruled to strike down the Biden Administration’s immigration policy “Keeping Families Together,” which would ease the pathway to permanent residency for close to a million of undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed the lawsuit against this immigration initiative when the program was rolled out in August of 2024.

The following statement can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado President and General Counsel, LatinoJustice PRLDEF:

“This abominable court decision betrays the millions of mixed-status families who were preparing to receive relief through this policy so they could finally live their lives with one fewer fear. LatinoJustice stands ready to defend our immigrant communities against this and other cruel attacks on policies that contribute to the creation of a more humane immigration system.”
