LatinoJustice Says: We Are Watching to Make Sure Our Election Systems Work
Debunks Reported Mis- and Disinformation in Georgia and Pennsylvania
New York, NY – On the eve of Election Day, LatinoJustice PRLDEF’s Cada Voto Cuenta nonpartisan poll monitoring teams in Georgia and Pennsylvania expressed their concern about reports that Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, election workers are engaging in illegal voter obstruction and misinformation, and therefore preventing several voters from exercising their right to vote, as well as reports that several state officials in Georgia are promoting a video with false information about people who are ineligible attempting to vote.
The following statement can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, President and General Counsel, LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
“We urge the millions of voters in Georgia and Pennsylvania, as well as millions more around the country preparing to cast their ballots, to stay the course and head to the polls, and not be swayed by last-minute rumors, misinformation or disinformation. Those looking to participate in this momentous election should be able to do so without doubt or obstacles. Report any issues you see. We are prepared to defend voters’ rights, on Election Day and beyond. We will stand up to those bad actors attempting to scare our communities out of their rights and dilute the Latino vote.”
LatinoJustice PRLDEF’s election protection program, Cada Voto Cuenta, has deployed bilingual volunteer poll monitors to selected counties in Florida, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania, to observe, report and troubleshoot issues that come up for voters at the polls and to ensure that voters who are not fluent in English have access to the materials they need to vote.
LatinoJustice PRLDEF encourages voters to report any problems they encounter at their voting precincts to the Election Protection hotline:
866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) (English)
888-VE-Y-VOTA (888- 839-8682) (Spanish)
