National Hispanic Leadership Agenda Urges Voters to Turn Out for Election Day

Washington, D.C. (November 3rd, 2025) - Today, the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, a coalition of national Latino civil rights and advocacy leaders and groups, released the following statement as Election Day approaches:

“Now more than ever, we need to make our voices heard. Election Day is our way to take back our power and to have a say in the future you want for yourself, your family, and your community,” said Chair of NHLA, Amy Hinojosa. “From governors to state Supreme Court justices to statewide referendums, these local and state decisions affect our everyday lives, including how we put food on the table, the quality of our children’s education, and how we are represented at the federal level. Make a plan to vote - whether voting early, in-person or by mail, bring your friends y vayan a votar este martes!”

“With mounting attacks on our right to vote, it’s time to prove that bullying and intimidation won’t keep us down,” said Miranda Galindo, Supervising Counsel for Voting Rights, LatinoJustice PRLDEF. “We urge you to cast your ballot with extra pride this Election Day. Showing up is the most powerful action we have in the fight for our democracy and future.”

“Latinos are the deciding force in elections up and down the ballot — from city hall to the governor’s mansion,” said Maria Teresa Kumar, President of Voto Latino. “Whether it’s California, New Jersey, Virginia, or right in the heart of New Mexico and Florida, our community is shaping the future with every vote we cast. When we show up, we don’t just participate — we lead. This Election Day, let’s remind America that our voice and our vote move this country forward. Our families, our children, and our dreams are on the ballot. Let’s turn out, lift each other up, and make our power undeniable.”

"Our communities cannot afford our silence when our democracy is at a threat.” Said Hector Sanchez Barba, President and CEO for Mi Familia Vota. “What's at stake is more than politics- it’s survival, our dignity, our rights and the future of our families. Latinos have the power to decide the direction of this country, but we MUST show up. Our vote is an act of defense, resilience and refusal  to be ignored. This election is a call to action and a reminder that our democracy only works when every voice is counted for. “

“Latinos consistently show the largest turnout gap – the difference between potential qualified voters and those who actually vote – even though Latinos are a rapidly growing part of the electorate; that in itself is a marker of significant malaise in our democracy,” said Thomas A. Saenz, MALDEF president and general counsel.  “Our nation must cease deterring Latino civic participation and take the steps to close the turnout gap if our democracy is to survive and thrive.”
