Operation Lone Star Foments Dangerous Environments for Immigrant Children says LatinoJustice

New York, NY – A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) official for the South Texas Region shared on Sunday on his social media platform, a video of an unaccompanied 2-year-old from El Salvador, at the Texas border stating how under Operation Lone Star (OLS), DPS found several children crossing the border.

In light of this news, LatinoJustice PRLDEF issued the following statement that can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, President & General Counsel, LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
Operation Lone Star is doing everything but “rescue” immigrants at the border. Rather than providing help or protection, Operation Lone Star brings only fear, distress, and hardship. OLS has increased the criminalization of immigrant families, creating an environment where children are separated from their parents and left to face dangers alone. The discovery of this young child—alone and in distress—serves as a heartbreaking symbol of how this operation puts vulnerable individuals at risk. LatinoJustice calls on state and federal authorities to end Operation Lone Star and instead prioritize policies that protect families, uphold human rights, and ensure the safety and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.”
