The Right to Record must be Protected and Enforced says LatinoJustice
US District Court for the Southern District of New York to Hear Arguments on “Right to Record”

New York, NY – A federal judge will hear LatinoJustice PRLDEF’s argument on why its opposing a motion to dismiss the case in Reyes v. City of New York, 23-cv-6369 the NYPD. LatinoJustice is representing citizen journalist SeanPaul Reyes known to his YouTube followers as “Long Island Audit”. Reyes is challenging the New York Police Department “Right to Record Act "policy stating it does not apply in NYPD precinct lobbies, even though they are held open to the public.

Back in March of this year a federal court in the Southern District of New York re-instated an injunction barring the New York Police Department from arresting LatinoJustice PRLDEF client SeanPaul Reyes and allowing him to record NYPD activity inside the public lobbies of NYPD precincts.

The following statement can be attributed to Andrew Case, Supervising Counsel at LatinoJustice PRLDEF: “As we continue to see incidents in which NYPD officers are not held accountable for their wrongful actions against our communities, it's more important than ever that the right to record is protected. Sean is confident his claim will succeed, the court has already found he is likely to succeed on the merits in the case. We will continue to defend this right, in our case representing citizen journalist Sean Paul Reyes, and advocate for accountability in policing for a just and safe society for all.
