Statements by Nassau Executive Xenophobic and Racist, Says LatinoJustice
Blakeman’s Support of Harmful Federal Immigration Policies Alarming
New York, NY – In a recent interview with News12, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman stated that Nassau County will support President-elect Donald Trump's policy of mass deportation.
In light of this news, LatinoJustice PRLDEF issued the following statement that can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, President and General Counsel of LatinoJustice PRLDEF:
“The statements made by Nassau County Executive Blakeman supporting mass deportations and designating some immigrants as more likely to be criminals show he believes he is sworn to serve only some of his constituents, in a community where one in five residents is Latino, and one in five was born outside the US.
“This xenophobic rhetoric jeopardizes public safety, including by discouraging community members from reporting crimes or otherwise interacting with law enforcement, which endangers everyone. LatinoJustice PRLDEF is committed to protecting the rights of Latino and immigrant residents of Nassau County, and we will hold the county accountable under our ongoing lawsuit, CARECEN et al. v. Nassau County.”
