Legal Term Internships

DESCRIPTION:
Interns conduct fact investigations and legal research, draft sections of legal briefs and memos' of law, participate in client and witness interviews and trial preparation, and accompany staff lawyers to court proceedings and legislative hearings. Law students are included in every stage of planning, developing and prosecuting our impact cases. Recent student work has included research into the First Amendment rights of day laborers, the Fourth Amendment rights of individuals involved in immigration home raids, and the Fourteenth Amendment right to equal protection.

DURATION: Term Internship during fall/Winter/Spring Semesters: 1 semester/quarter, part-time 12-15 hours per week subject to class schedule availability; Summer legal internships are full-time ten week positions for currently enrolled law students. 
 


QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking energetic, motivated law students with a record of commitment to social justice work who have excellent legal, written, research, and communications skills. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus but not required. We are happy to help students obtain academic course credit through school clinical externship programs and/or satisfy pro bono volunteer requirements at school or for bar admission.
 


COMPENSATION: Generally not available, except applicants for full-time ten weeks summer internship will also be considered for the Nixon Peabody LatinoJustice Summer Civil Rights Fellowship which awards a $5,000 grant award for the summer to one summer intern based upon financial need and commitment and service to the Latino community.
