LatinoJustice Heartened by New Protections from Deportation for 600,000+ DACA Recipients
LatinoJustice Demands Permanent Protections for DREAMERS

New York, NY- The Latino civil rights group LatinoJustice reacted to today's announcement on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announcement on a final rule on the federal immigration program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

The following quote can be attributed to Lourdes M. Rosado, LatinoJustice PRLDEF President and General Counsel:

“LatinoJustice PRLDEF is pleased with DHS' final ruling, just over a decade after the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was established by the Obama administration, and to see more solid protections placed in the books for the hundreds of thousands of young people who have made their lives and families in the U.S.

"We commend the Biden administration for strengthening DACA, but these protections from uncertainty and legal limbo remain incomplete and temporary. We call on the White House and Congress to deliver a permanent pathway to legal status for all Dreamers who live, work and continue to make innumerable contributions to this country.”

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced DACA in June 2012 to allow young undocumented immigrants who are low enforcement priorities to remain in the country. LatinoJustice submitted comments to DHS in November 2021 supporting a proposed DHS rule seeking to codify DACA deferred status.
