Next Generation Líderes (NGL)

A program of the CAP LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE sponsored by Nixon Peabody LLP

Developing the leadership potential of our youth has been a core mission for LatinoJustice PRLDEF since its origins five decades ago. Our Next Generation Líderes program matches high school students, undergraduates and recent grads interested in legal training and careers with practicing attorneys for one-on-one mentoring.

In addition, the year-long program offers monthly group events to share with students information on law school, resources and opportunities in the legal field, and to build networks that will serve them in years to come.

An NGL Pre Law Mentee can be a high school junior or senior, current college student or recent college graduate that has not applied to law school.

Eligible mentees must be willing to:

- Interact with an attorney mentor matched to them on at least a monthly basis.
- Participate in meetings which may be virtual, by phone/text or in person.
- Attend group events and programs designed to inform and enhance your journey to law school.

The role of an NGL attorney mentor is to provide a pre-law mentee guidance to support their interest in a legal career. Mentees may be high school upperclassmen or college students or recent college grads.

Attorney mentors must be willing to:

- Interact with their assigned mentees on a monthly basis. The communication method should be mutually agreed upon by both parties.
- Commit 1-2 hours per month to participate on NGL related activities (this includes the one-on-one mentoring session).
- Review written work such as cover letters, resumes, and diversity statements.
- Give advice and guidance in both personal and professional experiences of getting into law school.
- Encourage their mentee to attend group events designed to inform his/her journey.
