Spanish Language Disinformation Coalition Releases Statement Denouncing Widespread Online Hate and Misinformation Specifically Targeting Latinos

Washington, DC – As the 2nd anniversary of the El Paso Massacre approaches, the Spanish Language Disinformation Coalition, a nationwide coalition of Latino groups and ally organizations released a joint statement denouncing the lethal devastation that can follow the proliferation of online hate, particularly on social media platforms, as well as the widespread misinformation and disinformation specifically targeting Latino audiences on said platforms. The statement affirms that Latino communities have been relentlessly targeted by online disinformation campaigns, including political fake news, human smuggling ads, COVID-19 conspiracies and lies about COVID vaccines, and demand that social media platforms do more to prevent the dissemination of this deeply harmful content.
